Dr. Ritvo is an internationally known psychiatrist practicing at Mount Sinai Medical Center on Miami Beach, Florida. She has over 20 years experience as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist and treats individual, couples and families. The former vice chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, she remains an Associate Professor on the voluntary faculty. Eva is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a member of the American College of Psychiatry, the National Association of Medical Communicators and the International Society of Sports Psychiatry.
Dr. Ritvo completed her residency training at New York Hospital Payne Whitney Clinic/ Cornell and received undergraduate and medical degrees from University of California, Los Angeles. She has written and lectured extensively in the US, and internationally on the “Science and Meaning of Beauty”; Women’s Empowerment issues; Disruptive Physicians and Family Therapy. Dr Ritvo has written book chapters and articles on topics that include body dysmorphic disorder, managing patient expectations and handling difficult patients.
She is co-author of the definitive beauty guide, The Beauty Prescription: The Complete Formula for Looking and Feeling Beautiful (McGraw-Hill, 2008) which is available in English and Chinese. She is also the lead author of the Concise Guide to Marriage and Family Therapy and has written the chapters on Family and Couples Therapy for the leading psychiatric textbooks.
Dr. Eva makes frequent public speaking and television appearances on local news channels and has appeared on the TODAY show and a special segment on EXTRA called “Beauty and the Brain”. She had a long running TV segment called “Real Relationship” and appears regularly on CW’s HealthKey program www.HealthKey.com with Dr. Steve Salvatore. She is often quoted in the Miami Herald, and has also been quoted in the New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, WebMD, SELF magazine, Ladies Home Journal, O Magazine, Allure, Vive Magazine, MommyMD, and in ezines including HealthKey, HybridMom, EmpowHer, SheKnows and others. She is a regular guest on a radio show Brain Food for the Heartland, also for the national show Life, Love and Health with Christopher Springmann and is a guest on numerous other radio shows around the country. A frequent spokeswoman for Galderma, Eva just completed a speaking engagement in Brazil. She serves as a panelist and guest speaker for national and international conferences, including most recently in 2010 the International Internet Dating Conference, Vive Magazine’s women’s conference and the Empowered Women Conference.
Dr. Ritvo initiated the Margaret Ann Aitcheson Humanitarian Award at the Miller School of Medicine. This award was named in honor of Tipper Gore’s mother and Mrs. Gore was the first recipient. The award honors those who have made an outstanding contribution in the field of mental health. Dr. Ritvo is an active member of the Board of the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation and hosts the Annual Marissa Nestor Tennis Invitational to raise funds for the organization as well as assisting in numerous other events throughout the year. She recently held a breast cancer awareness fundraiser at her home in Miami Beach for Fly4Awareness that raised thousands of dollars.
